I got this unit to charge my phone while on the go without access to power. Right out of the box the micro-usb adapter was bad, but the unit works flawlessly with a different cord. It will charge itself and my phone at the same time while in full sunlight. The phone is a motorola photon. I was hoping that it would charge the phone twice on a full charge, but I can only get one charge before the unit has to be placed in the sun or plugged in again, that is with the phone on and running. Other than the cord issue the unit has worked as advertised and it will charge itself to full charge in the sun. The instructions are rather vague but operation is fairly straight forward. The power button must be held to turn the unit on and it must be on to charge another device. When first switched on the lights indicate charge state. Anytime the unit is placed in enough light it will start charging the internal battery, as indicated by the charge lights lighting in ascending order.

Solar part is not very useful

This external charger works great when charged from the wall outlet but did not work well for me using the solar panel. I live in California and it still took 2 days to charge and then it would last for 10 minutes, barely charging my phone by 10%.
I returned the product and received a full refund.

Flimsy connecting wire

The wire that is wound up that is made to be stretched open so you don’t get the wire tangled is flimsy and cheap. It popped right out of the circular containment and the metal springs broke. This happened as I opened it SLOWLY. So now I have a flimsy wire I need to be extra careful rolling to store. I had this for months but the seller never contacted me back, despite their good feedback reviews. The internal copper wire close to the output port is slightly exposed so I’ve had to use electric tape to keep it covered and hopefully won’t bend inside to lose a connection. The positive is that it does come with virtually all adaptors for different phones and mp3 devices. Unfortunately though, it does not hold a long charge and typically this should be used in emergencies (which is what I purchased it for) so I find myself charging it up a few times a week to have it prepared. Even if it’s fully charged, when I turn it off for 2 hours and try to charge it again, it seems to take another few more hours to charge up. Perhaps my device is defective, but I wouldn’t know because it’s past the return date and didn’t want to ship it back without speaking to someone first. Would have been nice to have one of my 4 calls returned.
